So it goes on and on......

I am still amazed at how far this Bethany Home thing has permeated so many of us from the North West.
Case in point:
Most you know how hooked I am on Facebook. It is such a fun, social thing to do, especially when you are older like I am and don't have much going on in your life anymore. It is also a wonderfully useful tool to reconnect with people that have been in your past.
Just the other day while I was reading a note on Attebetty's daughter Terri's wall (Facebook speak for your personal page) I saw the name of someone that I recognized from years ago. It was so nice to reconnect with Mary again and to see pictures of her now grown family and hear tidbits of her life. So that brings us to the hook, which is a little game people play "25 Random Things About Me". She had posted it on her "wall" and I, of course had gone over to read it. Very funny and most illuminating about a side of her I never knew. Then I came to item #20 and low and behold, there were the magic words, Bethany Home......see for your self. I have copied it here.

20. Some old guy punched me in the chest, because while working as a nursing assistant at Bethany Home in Everett, I put him on the port-a-potty and forgot about him. That kind of pissed him off.
Thank god the head nurse didn’t find out.

So there you have it. Another person with a link to Bethany Home. I wonder if there is a game out there called, "Six Degrees of Bethany Home."

Happy Birthday Dear Bud....

What a great show this was, even
though it has been panned in recent years for not being real. The fact that father, James Anderson, could solve the family's problems and dilemmas in only a half-hour was of no matter to me. It seemed so sweet and real because I was an only child being raised by my Grandmother. How I longed for a big sister or a little sister or a brother like Bud and a Dad like Jim.

Billy Gray, aka Bud Anderson, of Father Knows Best turned 71 this week. He will ever be that young, funny, cute guy from my pre-teen years. He was in the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" plus many other roles.
He was young Hollywood of that day.

Why I'm Still Single...I think.

Many people have asked me that question and until recently I didn't have an answer. Well, I did but not one I'm willing to put here. But tonight was a perfect example...

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had nice, sweet, moonie faced boys come up to me and declare their love for me. Nice guys, wonderful guys, that any woman would be proud to be associated with, or dating, or married to. But not me. Nope!!! I was looking for something else. I was looking for the Indiana Jones of my time. The daring adventurer, the exciting, dangerous fellow that would love me and sweep me off my feet while keeping me safe.

Unfortunately that didn't translate well in the late 50's and early 60's. The guys that should have fit that model, that should have been cool and hip and chivalrous were instead pasty faced thugs with greasy DA's and their cigarettes rolled up in the sleeves of their T-shirts.
Years later I came to realize this malady is known as a 'broken picker' or as my wise Mother used to say, "Dear, I'm worried that you are a moron magnet." Having "picked" quite a few men that turned out to be problematic, I have to agree with her or at least admit that my 'Picker' is indeed broken.

Case in point......tonight, as I was finishing my laundry here at 'Bethany Home', a fella opened the door to the really small laundry room on my floor and smacked me rather hard. He was immediately apologetic and with the terribly funny comment, "I am so terribly sorry, I just can't rely on that X-ray vision any more", he completely amused me. Truth be told, I cracked up!!!!
We have talked several times and he is always very funny and interesting but alas! not interested. He just looks average and nice and that's evidently still not what I am looking for. Nothing about him makes my old heart go pity-pat.

Do old hearts go pity-pat like young ones do?
And when does that need for the dangerous guy end? Does it ever? Until then, I will stay single.

Red Letter Day Today!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HORSEY GIRL!!
Known you 50+ Years and you haven't changed a bit! Just goes to show, the Biddies are holding up well. No Bethany Home for us yet.

OH Boy! Can you just imagine a Bethany Home with us in it?
P.dot - down in the kitchen spicing up the bland dinners between visits to resident's rooms to fix computer problems, teach crafts, rearrange their furniture for a more pleasing look and dispense sage advice while doing it.
Sparkle - checking the rooms with a white glove and making 'that noise we can't spell' when she finds dirt..... All the men residents madly in love with her.
Horsey Girl - scared to death the 'Nurse Ratchets' will find out she has Glen, Jack, 2 goats, a couple of horses, a few geese, some chickens and sundry ducks hidden in her room.
Lukibstd - racing up and down the street out front, with the radio on 'Blast', looking for someone that wants to race her in her Classic e-Type Jag.
Dexagirl - making sure we all stay on the same floor......

My Hair

Several nights ago I was talking on the phone with my grand daughter Jensyn, who is 16, whom I have not seen for quite awhile. We were just chatting about how we have changed in looks and I mentioned that my hair now looks like a dandelion. *See, it used to be salt and pepper and really thick with lots of body. But now that it's turned white it is so soft and fluffy that I think it looks like a dandelion (see profile picture)*
She, being the sweet child that she is, said something like 'no Grandma, it's probably not like that. I remember how your hair looked.' or words to that effect. Well, then she saw a very recent picture of me online and I got a text message from her soon after that read................

"awe Grandma, you DO look like a dandelion"
*(again see profile picture)

I was rolling with laughter!!!

Comments Made in the Year 1955

"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one."

"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous."

"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?"

"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."

"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."

"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With The Wind,' it seems every new movie has either "hell" or "damn" in it.

"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas ."

"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the president."

"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."

"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet."

"It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."

"Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat."

"I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."

"Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress."

"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

"There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel."

"No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood."

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20."

"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it."

It's Official~I am old now and I have the card to prove it...

The other day I got this card in the mail and I thought, "Oh no, I haven't signed up for my provider." So I hustled over to my laptop and started to do some research and here is what I found:

Did you know there is a picture of the first two people that got Medicare cards receiving them? I didn't know that!!! Look who it is....

It's Harry Truman and Bess and their cards were numbers 1 and 2. That's old LBJ presenting them with their cards.

So I got busy and signed up with the insurance provider that I determined to be the best for me and I had no help from old what's his name.....

So it's official,..........old, and I have the card from the government to prove it.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot?

Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And days of Auld Lang Syne (2x)
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And days of Auld Lang Syne
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And Auld Lang Syne
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
